Player Evaluations - MOVED TO LF SPORTS PARK

**WEATHER UPDATE** Heroes Fields are CLOSED due to poor weather/field conditions, and we anticipate that it will remain closed on Sunday. We were able to secure the Turf Soccer Fields at the LF Sports Park for the afternoon/evening, so we will be moving Player Evaluations there for January 8th. Please be on the lookout for an email from the Player Agent with your newly assigned evaluation time slot. Unfortunately, as the turf fields were not available until the afternoon, we have had to adjust everyone's time slot accordingly. Please arrive 15-20 min early for check-in and have your player ready to take the field 10 mins before their scheduled time, as we will keep things moving even if we are running ahead of schedule. We are going to be doing our best to get everyone's evaluations done within the shortened timeframe we have. Thank you in advance for your patience!

IF YOU HAVE NOT  YET COMPLETED DOCUMENT CHECK, PLEASE ARRIVE AT LEAST 30 MINS BEFORE YOUR ASSIGNED EVALUATION TIME SLOT TO COMPLETE THE DOCUMENT CHECK. YOUR PLAYER CANNOT PARTICIPATE UNTIL DOCUMENT CHECK HAS BEEN COMPLETED.

**Player Evaluations apply only to League Age 9 and older players (excl. Challengers), and also League Age 8 players who wish to be eligible for the AA draft.**

Date: Sunday, January 8th
Location: Lake Forest Sports Park Turf Soccer Fields (28000 Rancho Parkway, Lake Forest)
Check-in at the AYSO snack bar in between the two turf fields
West Field: League Age 11+
East Field: League Age 8-10

Player Evaluations are MANDATORY - players who do not attend evaluations are ineligible to enter the draft and therefore will not be able to play unless there is a justifiable reason (as determined by the Player Agent and BOD). If your player is unable to attend the event on January 8th, please email the Player Agent at [email protected] stating the reason.

What to bring/expect on the day of Player Evaluations:

What to wear: Comfortable clothing, athletic cup (for boys), and rubber cleats or tennis shoes (metal cleats are NOT allowed on the turf). Baseball pants may be worn but are not required. If you have a previous season LFLL jersey with your last name printed on it, we encourage you to wear it for easier identification on the field.

What to bring: Each player must bring their own 1) fielding glove, 2) USA-standard bat, and 3) batting helmet.

What time to arrive: Please arrive at least 15-20 minutes prior to your assigned time slot to check in and receive instruction on where to go and what to do on the field. Earlier arrival is strongly encouraged for those players who have never attended evaluations, to allow the players a chance to observe the previous group going through the process. In order to stay on schedule, we will not wait for any late arrivals. Late arrivals will be added to subsequent groups as space allows.

What to expect: Players will be evaluated on their baseball skills by the team managers. Skills to be evaluated will include hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, and running abilities.  Attitude and effort are considered as well.

Sample evaluation drills to be conducted:

- 3 pop flies: pop flies will be hit into the outfield and the player will catch and make a throw to 2nd base.  They will then become the 2nd baseman to catch the throw.

- 3 ground balls: ground balls will be hit to the shortstop and the player will field and throw to 1st base.  They will then become the 1st baseman to catch the throw.

- Batting: 3 swings off of live pitches or off of a tee. Age 12+ players will be hitting off a tee and into a net for safety purposes at the turf fields since there is no dugout/backstop. Age 11 and under will hit off of live pitches as long as time allows, or we may change to tee if we begin to fall behind schedule. On the last swing, the batter will run to 2nd base.

- Pitching (optional): players that stay for pitcher evaluation will throw ~3-5 pitches.

Please remember that player evaluations are not "tryouts" - no one is "cut" and everyone will make a team!  The purpose of the player evaluations is to ensure that players play in a division that will allow them to develop their skills at the appropriate level and that teams are formed evenly, so all can enjoy a fun and competitive season of baseball.

If you have any questions or concerns about the player evaluation process, please contact the Player Agent at [email protected].
