Lake Forest Little League

Divisions

Please note that age ranges for each division are reviewed and approved by the Board on an annual basis, and are subject to change.

TEE BALL DIVISION

Tee Ball is Lake Forest Little League's youngest division, designed for children of league age 4 to 6.  It's not just a clever name- in this division kids hit the ball off a batting tee instead of swinging at a pitched ball. The rules of baseball are adjusted in order to accommodate teaching our youngest players the fundamentals. The primary goals of Tee Ball are to teach children hitting, fielding, and teamwork.

This is a non-competitive division. No score is kept during the game and everyone plays every inning. Base paths are set at 45 feet and rosters typically have 10-11 players. Parental involvement is highly encouraged. Sometimes Tee Ball is a bit like herding cats and coaches appreciate an extra hand on the field or in the dugout. Most important- Tee Ball is FUN! The memories created in this division will last a lifetime.

ROOKIE DIVISION

They've mastered the tee so what's next? LFLL's Rookie division, designed for children of league age 6 to 7. In this division players swing at a live ball, pitched to them by their coach from a kneeled position. There are typically 10-11 players on a team and base paths are set at 50 feet. This is a developmental division with no official scorekeeping. Parent involvement is still strongly encouraged at this non-competitive level.

SINGLE A DIVISION

Welcome to kid pitch! Single A is LFLL's youngest "player pitch" division and is designed for children of league age 7 to 8. This is still a developmental division with no official scorekeeping beyond making sure that no more than 5 runs are scored per half inning. Rosters have 10-11 players. Bases are set at a 60-foot distance and the pitching distance is 38 feet.

AA DIVISION

They are ready for the big time now! AA is the first competitive division in Little League, designed for league age 8-10 year old children. Players attend a player evaluation and teams are formed based on a draft (Spring season only). Player evaluations determine whether or not a player is ready to move up a division and help to create more balanced teams.

Rosters are composed of 12 players, the diamond is 60 feet, and the pitching distance is 46 feet. Blue Book rules will be followed.  Minimum playing time rules are enforced. Scores and standings are kept throughout the season, ending with a playoff tournament to determine the division champions who will then represent LFLL in the District Tournament of Champions. Some players will be eligible to play on a LFLL All-Star team if selected.

AAA DIVISION

AAA is designed for players who are of league age 9-11. All players attend a player evaluation and teams are formed based on a draft (Spring season only). Player evaluations determine whether or not a player is ready to move up a division and help to create more balanced teams.

CHALLENGER DIVISION

Lake Forest Little League wants ALL children to develop a love of baseball. The Challenger Division is a separate division of Little League designed for children with physical and mental challenges, league ages 6 and up. The registration fee for this division is nominal, and we rely on fundraisers to subsidize the costs of the program. Junior and Senior teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age. Challenger games can be played as tee ball games, coach pitch, player pitch, or a combination of the three. Players from teams in other Lake Forest Little League divisions participate in the Buddy Program whereby buddies may assist Challenger players on the field as needed.
